  • 5 IScream

My mother is a Blackpudlian born and bred, ( I unfortunately am not). But as we often go back, a large part of my chilhood was spent queuing at this art-deco paradise. It's thick creamy and definitely has that something special and is a family ritual with three generations falling in love. i have tried in vain to hunt down more. But it is a family recipe and a family run business. Let's hope it stays like this and doesn't loose out to the McDonald's around the corner.

  • 4 The Cream! (yeah I know!)

Hidden away around the corner from MacDonalds, Notarianni's has to be tasted to be believed. And once you do, you will surely be smitten by this this most gorgeous ice-cream. The staff are always friendly and chatty and although the parking is a bit of a nightmare, you are in good company! Along with the 'hundreds and thousands' of Notty regulars, I've seen all three emergency services parking on double-yellows, taxi ranks or upon pavements in their quest for Notty's best. (Perhaps they should 'cone' it off - geddit?) In balance, there are a couple of negative points: most obviously, they are only open in the summer! (come on, guys!) And, unless I'm mistaken, there appears to have been a slight change in the recipe; Notty's seems to tastes a wee bit creamier and a wee bit sweeter this season. For most this would be a plus, but for this connoiseur I have to say I prefered the mark one model. Also, understandably with our unpredictable weather, opening and closing times can be a touch shaky. Many is the time I have found the shutters down and had to go without. Not that it will stop me being a regular at their shop front in the future! Well, that is the end of this writers 'scoop'!
